Newt Gingrich wants the conservative Republican party to look at same sex marriage as a very complicated human problem.  He still believes that a marriage is only between one man and one woman.  In January he told the religious leaders: " It's pretty simple: marriage is between a man and a woman.  He went on to say that a historic doctrine driven deep into the Bible, both in the Old Testament and in the New Testament, and it's a perfect example of what I mean by the rise of paganism. The effort to create alternatives to marriage between a man and a woman are perfectly natural pagan behaviors, but they are a fundamental violation of our civilization.  There is a lot to work on this subject of same sex marriage being legal and there has been talk to impeach Obama by the house speaker because Obama  will no longer defend Section Three of DOMA, which defines marriage as a "legal union between one man and one woman."
